I believe that to make a living doing what we love, we all must make leaps of faith!

Once upon a time, I worked a day job as Communications Manager at Foothills Art Center, in Golden Colorado.  With a BA in Professional Writing and an MH in Language and Visual Arts, the job suited me beautifully – except that it didn’t!  The art center was a non-profit business and that meant that the expectation was high, but the pay was low.  So, my husband and I both worked our butts off in order to make ends meet!  Did I mention that we have a young son?

During the week, my husband was the primary care taker for our son, and then he would head out for a weekend of graveyard shifts at a hospital – literally the minute that I walked in the door on Friday evenings!  On Friday nights, I often needed childcare in order to attend events at the art center, and, on Saturdays, I sometimes took my son to work with me so that I could accommodate deadlines.   After almost a year and a half of this ridiculous routine, I quit.

Once I made this leap of faith, the magic started …

At that point, a dear friend asked me to manage her new yoga studio and I happily agreed.  Since my experience is in Communications and Marketing, I focused first on branding and marketing the studio.  To my surprise, people began to ask the studio owner who created her marketing materials.  At first, I turned people down when they asked me if I was for hire.  Eventually, however, I realized that I was not particularly inclined toward all of the details of managing a yoga studio.  Thankfully, my friend and I were able to restructure our working relationship so that I continue to work for the studio on a contract basis, doing what I love.

That is also when I began to say Yes! when people expressed an interest in hiring me, and thus Indiepreneur Power was born!
