The Power of Affirmation

You can live the life that you desire! Did you feel any resistance when you read that?  I’ll tell you what, I have had to do some MAJOR inner work in order to gain the confidence and courage to pursue the intentional design of my life and my business.  In January of 2009, at the same time that I began doing freelance work, I had the good fortune to attend a workshop by Diane Sieg called 30 Days to Grace. Diane teaches a 30-minute daily practice during which you focus on a single affirmation for 30 days.   I was familiar with the concept of affirmations, but committing to a 30-day ritual made the power of affirmation abundantly clear!

An affirmation is a positive thought that you repeat to yourself in order to implant a desired perspective in your mind.

If you did feel any resistance when you read the first line of this post, where did it come from?  What beliefs are obstructing your sense of power and freedom?  By identifying areas of resistance, you empower yourself to remove the obstacles that prevent you from living the life that you desire.

The affirmation that I worked with to kick-start my business is, “I am creating an inspired business that provides me with an avenue to abundance.” This intention helped me maintain confidence through the ups and downs of starting a new enterprise and it helped me stay focused on my intention – as I do have a tendency toward diversion!  Affirming my intention proved to be especially helpful on days when I was feeling pessimistic.  I grew to realize that even as obstacles lay before me, I always manage to break through!

What does the life that you desire look like?  I would love to hear about your goals and help you formulate an affirmation to achieve them!  Please leave a comment after this post and let me know what you want to work toward this year!  Or, share an affirmation that has empowered you …

Lea…I love your commitment! We are co-creators of our lives and oftentimes people are “sleepwalking” through their days without a conscious awareness of what they want to create, nurture, manifest! It is so important to consciously create the future you want to start living! Thanks for your thought provoking post! xo Tanya

Wonderful post Lea! I love affirmations and the power of positive intent! I am in the process of creating a vision board for this year. I want to become more confident and courageous in my career as a writer and in general. It is so important that we believe in ourselves above anything else. What might an affirmation for this look like?

Thanks for the helpful topic. :)

Wow, Lea. I have goosebumps. Thank you. It is so often we are reactive in our lives. Affirmations allow us to be proactive, to envision and focus on our true intent. By embracing this vision through affirmations, we can cease being reactive and create our own blueprint…providing us with parameters to weigh whether the choices we make truly serve our intention and vision.
Now, implementing is another story. Thank you for the inspiration to follow through! The way you break it down makes the practice less daunting.
    Thank you so much!

Great post (and fabulous new site)! I love the idea of a 30-day commitment to one affirmation. I have found that the specific affirmations are the ones that work best for me. Hmmmmm, I’ll have to think of a good one for 2011!

    Hi Lea!
I am glad that you are sharing affirmations with others. I think they really work. I enjoy the ones by Louise Hay: Everything is working out for my highest good and greatest joy. I trust the process of life.
    Cheers,
    Anjali
