Abundance, Baby!

As indiepreneurs, we are the architects of our lives.  We set our goals and we design the path that leads to them.  This is such an empowering notion, but this premise also implies tremendous responsibility!  For me, one of the great challenges of owning a business is creating my own source of income.  Yet, as I am learning to work consciously with my relationship to abundance, I am excited by the sense that I am responsible for what I earn!

Ironically, the work of creating abundance does not require action, but rather introspection.  Of course, action may be inspired by our introspection, but without conscious intention, our actions do not necessarily direct us toward our true desires.  The primary matter of creating abundance – the inner work – requires us to define what we truly want, examine our beliefs, and transform our beliefs so that they serve our intentions.

1) Define what you want.
The perfect life looks entirely different for each of us and may be best defined by looking inward.   What do you need to feel secure and what truly makes you happy?  Describe your ideal life.  It is extremely helpful to write down your ideas.  Be as specific as possible and – whatever you do – don’t limit yourself to what you consider “realistic!”

2) Examine your beliefs.
The beliefs that you hold to be “true” about money shape your experience of abundance.  So, it is important to take inventory of your beliefs.  Some of your beliefs may serve your desire for abundance while others may prevent you from realizing your dreams.  Write down your beliefs about abundance and carefully consider whether or not each belief is serving your best interests.

3) Transform your beliefs.
It is so liberating to realize that you get to choose what you want to believe in!  With this in mind, be sure to make agreements with yourself about money that work to create joy and abundance for you.  You can actually rewrite any of the beliefs that you discovered that may be preventing you from realizing your dreams.  Using affirmations is a powerful way to cultivate the values that you have chosen.
